This category of Award is to recognize the role of distance learning in higher education and to acknowledge the contributions of outstanding distance education universities in meeting the requirements for vast knowledge possession, providing diverse knowledge to learners, helping students to earn while learning, supporting qualification improvement opportunity, catering students in difficult geographical or social circumstances and promoting adult education programs through non-formal education.

The criteria to file nominations for this category are:

  • variety of courses offered
  • access and participation- number of students served over last two year
  • completion of course and retention of students
  • students satisfaction of the distance education course
  • program delivery mode and quality information
  • synchronous learning- web conferencing, video conferencing, educational television, instructional television
  • asynchronous learning- message board forums, emails, video and audio recordings, voicemail, fax
  • use of 3D virtual world for curriculum transaction
  • student-faculty and student-student interaction, communication, active learning
  • prompt¬†feedback mechanism and flexibility of programs
  • learner-centered assessment
  • effective resource utilization
  • employment and placement opportunities to students
  • support and incentives
  • technology and infrastructure
  • number of students served belonging to disadvantaged categories.
The main critera for this category of Award is based on the innovations and pioneer efforts done in the field of distance education which have gained reputation to your university or college during the recent past years.
The Distance Education Universities which fulfills the above-mentioned criteria are encouraged to file their nominations for the category- ‘Higher Education Award for Outstanding Distance Education Universities’.
Note: Judges may request nominees for further information, including visit to shortlisted distance education institutions.
